Building for the future: Wendy’s work at Maroochy Private Hopsital
As cranes tower over the growing Maroochydore City Centre, construction of the new Maroochy Private Hospital is steadily taking shape. Behind the scenes, Wendy has been playing a crucial role, helping to set new standards for sustainability and quality on the Sunshine Coast.
A focus on sustainability and quality
For Wendy, sustainability has been a key consideration from the outset.
“We’ve been really conscious with the materials and the methods of construction that we use,” she said.
The team has worked hard to incorporate environmentally responsible practices, from selecting efficient building materials to planning for long-term energy performance. According to Wendy, the goal is to ensure the hospital is “functional and fit for purpose” for many years to come, while minimising its impact on the environment.
Her attention to detail is also evident in the hospital’s construction. “You can go and build a building, but it’s another thing to actually build something that is going to be useful for people and actually help people,” she said.

The complexity of building a hospital
Unlike commercial projects, constructing a hospital comes with its own set of challenges.
“There’s so many services and things that need to go into it — it’s quite intricate,” Wendy said.
From medical gases to advanced ventilation systems, the build requires specialist knowledge and careful planning. Wendy said the team is constantly coordinating with engineers, consultants and future hospital operators to make sure every technical requirement is met.
“The client is fantastic and there’s a lot of technical people involved, so that’s been really good to work through that with them,” she said.

“I’ve worked on lots of projects, but this one is special. It’s something that will make a huge difference to the community.”
Challenges of building in a growing city
Located in the heart of a fast-growing CBD, the construction site for Maroochy Private Hospital is surrounded by other major projects.
“It’s challenging when you’re trying to build a high-quality product and you’re in amongst a lot of other projects,” Wendy said.
Managing construction activity, ensuring safe crane operations and coordinating logistics in a busy environment has required careful planning and strong teamwork. But Wendy said it has also been rewarding to contribute to something bigger.
A project with personal meaning
For Wendy, working on Maroochy Private Hospital is about building something meaningful for the community.
“The Sunshine Coast is really changing and I think it’s important that we deliver good quality projects to set the standard for future projects,” she said.
With a background in construction management and a passion for creating lasting infrastructure, Wendy said she is proud to be part of a project that will directly benefit people for generations.
“You want to be able to walk away from something and go, ‘That’s a really good quality project that’s going to serve the community,’” she said.
